A CONTROVERSIAL planning application for more than 200 new houses and a care home in the centre of Chalfont St Peter has been made.
The former Holy Cross Convent site in Gold Hill East had been pinpointed by Chiltern District Council as possible development land after being told by the Government to find space for 2,900 new homes in the district.
The move sparked anger in the village, with a campaign group opposing building work at the site being set up.
A survey carried out by residents suggested just eight per cent of villagers were in favour of Holy Cross being built on (see previous stories, below).
An application to build there has been made by 'Holy Cross Sisters Trustees Incorporated'.
It is an 'outline' planning application, meaning the developer is seeking an 'in principle' agreement with the council before a full application is made at a later date.
The plans are for up to 232 dwellings, a residential care home for 74 bedrooms, community facilities on up to 1,100 square metres of land and new road access.
The application is likely to be considered by the council's planning committee in June.
