Stokenchurch scouts and guides will benefit from new club house

SCOUTS and guides who have been homeless since 2005 will have a brand new headquarters by the end of the year.

A fire at the Stokenchurch Scout and Guide hut in Longburrow Park in Park Lane left the group without any permanent head quarters.

But after years of fundraising and gaining planning permission in Longburrow Park they will benefit from a new state of the art club house.

Christoper Nash, fundraiser coordinator for Stokenchurch Scouts and Guides said: “We should have the building up and in our possession by the end of the year.

“It has long been an ambition of theirs to have an exceptional scouts and guides' HQ.”

At the moment both groups are meeting in various halls around the village and storing their equipment in people's garages.

Working alongside Stokenchurch Parish Council and Buckinghamshire County Council the project is estimated to cost £550,000 to £600,000.

Mr Nash added: “It is not a done deal but the indications are very good. The money is in place and the building is out to tender at the moment.

“We have some good local donors who are helping us. It is going to be a very substantial meeting place with two large meeting halls.”

Organisers are hoping Sure Start, a government funding scheme, will be positioned at the hall which would also add a significant amount of money to the project.

Sure Start are children centres which are all over the country which provide advice and support to parents and carers.

If you think you can donate money or help the project call Christopher Nash on 01494482219.

This is fantastic news, it's been a long wait, and it will be so good for the village of Stokenchurch and the children from good families that take part in worthwhile activities such as Scouting and Guiding.

Let's hope the type of scum that allegedly were to do with the arson attack on the old building keep well away from this worthwile project.
