THE planned route of a new high speed rail line is to be discussed in the House of Commons next week.
Proposals for the route were revealed by the Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, last week.
They include building a tunnel under Amersham and Chalfont St Giles and going through the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – sparking anger among residents and politicians.
The plans will be discussed in a half-hour 'adjournment debate' in Parliament from 1pm next Tuesday.
It has been obtained by Aylesbury MP David Lidington.
He said: "I have been lucky in the ballot and have secured a 30 minute debate in Westminster Hall between 1.00 and 1.30 pm next Tuesday 23 March on the subject of The Impact on Buckinghamshire of the Government’s Preferred Route for High Speed Two.
"If anyone is planning to be in London then, there are a limited number of public seats for debates in Westminster Hall."
Speaking in the Bucks Free Press this week, Mr Lidington said the plans came as an “appalling shock to local residents”.
He added: “I share their outrage at a scheme that would scar the Chilterns landscape that successive governments have designated as of outstanding national importance.”
