Sir Ian McGeechan to become patron of STUBS which provide tickets to Adams Park

RUGBY star Ian McGeechan will become patron of a charity which offers free tickets to injured servicemen to see games at Adams Park.

Sir Ian McGeechan has recently been knighted for his long standing career in rugby as a player and coach, including for the British and Irish Lions.

He will now support the charity STUBS which provides practical support for UK armed services personnel who have been injured on duty, war widows, services veterans and other servicemen who need support.

They also support the UK's most seriously injured servicemen and women who are in-patients at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court, Epsom and give them the chance to see sport live including London Wasps home games where STUBS rent an executive box on the halfway line.

Sir Ian said: "I am honoured to have been asked to become patron for such a worthwhile cause. Our servicemen and women deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for putting their lives on the line to defend us.

"I have been to a number of fantastic STUBS events and met some true heroes who have served on the front line. It is a humbling experience to talk to those individuals who have suffered life changing injuries and often lost comrades as well.

"I hope that by becoming a patron, I can encourage others to play a part in giving something back to those brave men and women who serve Queen and country so selflessly."

Tickets are now on sale for the next STUBS' event which is a comedy night at Adams Park, High Wycombe on March 31 featuring Simon Fox and Kevin McCarthy.

To book call 01494-811500, email jan.vassie@stubs.org.uk or log on to www.stubs.org.uk.

An excellent and worthy cause, nice to see a positive story from the 'pests' for a change.
