THE Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has addressed a full council chamber in High Wycombe and given a stark warning of the dangers of a nuclear war between India and Pakistan.

The mayor of High Wycombe Mahboob Hussain and Wycombe MP Sir Ray Whitney were among the dignitaries and members of the High Wycombe community who extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister Sultan Mahmood Choudhary.

The Prime Minister discussed recent developments in the situation and raised awareness about the atrocities in Kashmir.

He said: 'I want to remind the international community the situation is not only serious inside occupied Kashmir.'

He added: 'Both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers and problems are escalating.

'If there is no third party influence a nuclear war could take place.'

Sir Ray Whitney told the meeting there had been a lot of trouble and violence in Kashmir and the conflict between India and Pakistan dated back more than 50 years.

He said: 'Britain has tried very hard to use its influence but the issue has to be solved between India and Pakistan and we have great sympathy with the Kashmir people.

'Like many things suddenly the ice breaks and we hope that happens in Kashmir.'

About 300 members of the Kashmir and Pakistani community in High Wycombe, led by Choudhray Allah Ditta, joined a demonstration and rally in London on Sunday and handed in a petition to Downing Street urging Tony Blair to give his support to help the plight of the long suffering people of Kashmir. There have been human rights UN resolutions.

Mahboob Hussain said it was a great privilege and honour to welcome the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to High Wycombe and the town admired his efforts in helping the people of Kashmir.
