Schools have share of £14.5m Government fund

SCHOOLS are to benefit from thousands of pounds of Government funding towards improving science laboratories, care at nursery schools and repairs to church schools.

Capital funding of £14.5 million over the next two years, for Local Education Authorities and schools in the South East, has been announced by schools minister Jacqui Smith.

The distribution of £14.5 million to schools across the region for 2000 to 2001 and 2001 to 2002 includes £279,340 for modern school laboratories in Buckinghamshire over two years, to tackle fundamental deficiencies in secondary school science accommodation.

Also £404,000 will go to repair projects at church schools in Bucks and a total of £112,240 for secondary school Learning Support Units in the county to establish Learning Support Units to provide for difficult and disruptive pupils.

Jacqui Smith said: 'I am delighted to be able to announce the distribution of this funding. We are committed to improving school standards.'
