MOTHER-OF-TWO Emma Spurrell blasted critics who condemned the state of High Wycombe Cemetery and said graveyard workers do a wonderful job.

Mrs Sprurrell, of Lucas Road, High Wycombe, said she walked her daughter to and from Hamilton Combined School every day and thought the cemetery, in Hampden Road, High Wycombe, was 'wonderfully kept'.

She said: 'The cemetery is brilliantly tidy most of the time.

'How can people be moaning about a little piece of grass in the graveyard?

'I think it's so unfair that people spend a lot of time mowing.'

She added: 'It's litter-free and it looks beautiful. You cannot expect them to clear all the clippings up. The poor people are mowing day and night.'

Mrs Spurrell hit back after two people criticised the upkeep of the cemetery in the past fortnight, in the Free Press.

Pensioner Rose Pearce, of Hithercroft Road, Downley, contacted the Free Press last week to complain that her daughter's grave was covered with rotting grass.

The week before that, ambulance worker Michael Mole, of Fremantle Road, High Wycombe, criticised the upkeep of the cemetery, in Free Press, saying the grass had been allowed to get unacceptably long.

A council spokesman said: 'The cemetery is being maintained to the same standards as in previous years.'
