FIREFIGHTERS were called to two houses after their roofs were struck by lightning as thunderstorms swept South Bucks.

Firemen from High Wycombe Fire Station were called to the houses in Downs Park Road, and The Pastures, in Downley, after the lightning struck at 6.45am yesterday.

The two houses were damaged but no one was injured and neither house was set alight.

Phillip Eden, a BBC Radio 5 Live forecaster who has a weather station in Chesham, said the storms were part of a line of thunderstorms stretching from Eastbourne in Sussex, to Birmingham.

He added: "The threat of thunderstorms should recede from Friday and we should be back to pleasant, sunny weather for the weekend. This sort of thunderstorm is extremely characteristic for this time of year."
