New surgery: Dr North Demand: Dr Morrow DOCTORS James Morrow and Chris North are setting up an out-of-hours surgery to cater for the hectic lives of commuters.

Dr Morrow, 33, and Dr North, 42, who are both NHS GPs at the doctors' surgery in Victoria Road, Marlow, are starting an out-of-hours service at Bon Secours Hospital, in Beaconsfield.

Dr Morrow compared the new service to 24-hour banking.

He said: "For quite some time I have been aware of a demand from patients generally for a general practice service that is more in line with modern life.

"The NHS, although it is excellent, is still very much 8.30am to 6pm.

"A lot of people in the area are generally busy commuters."

Dr Morrow believes some patients may neglect their health because they cannot see a doctor without taking time off work.

He added: "The NHS is still the primary deliverer of healthcare. But I think there are some people who may just be put off going to the doctor because it is inconvenient."

Surgery hours will initially be from 7pm to 9pm on weekdays. Consultations, which started this week, will cost £35 excluding medication.

Dr Morrow, who was educated in Northern Ireland before studying at Cambridge and Oxford, has also taught in a school, farmed sheep and worked with the flying doctors in Australia.

He has been at Marlow for three years.
