Beanse in poll position

CHINGFORD and Woodford Green Liberal Democrats have again selected their vice-president, John Beanse, to be their prospective parliamentary candidate for the next General Election.

Beanse, who was the Lib Dem candidate in 2001 standing against Iain Duncan Smith, has lived in the constituency for most of his life.

As well as working as a languages tutor and examiner, Mr Beanse also gives many travel talks and is an accredited speaker for the Electoral Reform Society.

Mr Beanse has been an active campaigner on the local political scene for around 30 years, and has edited and produced much Liberal Democrat paraphernalia in that time.

Commenting on his selection, Mr Beanse said: "I believe the political climate at the next General Election will be very different from last time.

"Many people have lost trust and are very disappointed in Labour for failure to deliver in various areas and because of the Iraq war. Yet there is no sign of any great appetite for a return to Tory government either.

"The Liberal Democrats have a constructive and distinctive message and a great opportunity. The lesson of recent by-elections is that we can produce surprising results.

"The Liberal Democrats are themselves an issue for this General Election. Britain needs a fairer, more democratic, greener and safer society. We have to get across our positive policies and urge the voters that in order to achieve change they should elect a large block of Liberal Democrats to Parliament."
