DEVELOPERS' plans for more housing on a Wycombe Marsh site have been given the go-ahead.

St James Homes had resubmitted plans to build flats on the London Road site where they have been working for the past few months.

They planned to build three blocks of flats but resubmitted designs for the third block close to houses on the western side of the development near Platts garage.

The block will have nine one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom flats as well as basement parking. The shape of the building has changed in the new plans and balconies on some flats have been removed. People living in homes next to the proposed flats claimed they would suffer a loss of privacy and sunlight if the three-storey building was put up.

The housing association which owned the two homes felt tenants' privacy would be blighted by the new block.

Cllr Pam Priestley, chairman of the committee, said plans for the block had already been approved.

She said: "There were already plans on the site for the flats. There were objections from the housing association that owns two nearby houses.

"They were worried about being overlooked but we did carry out a site visit and there were plans already that had received approval and we thought these particular plans were an improvement on the set of plans that went before.

"It was given due consideration but in the end we considered what was proposed was acceptable."

In a written submission the High Wycombe Society criticised only having 28 car parking places between 25 flats.

The plans also drew criticism from them for the lack of any bicycle storage and also wanted to see a cycle route around or through the site.
