ROBBERS caused chaos across south Bucks after two separate incidents in 24 hours.

Police swooped on a quiet street on Thursday after an alleged armed robbery in Hazlemere.

The Desborough Road area of High Wycombe was cordoned off causing severe traffic problems as police officers moved in to arrest a man suspected of holding up a victim at gun-point.

The drama started on Thursday afternoon when a robber approached a man in Inkerman Drive, Hazlemere, and threatened him with a gun.

The attacker demanded money and ran off with cash and the victim's phone, police say.

A police helicopter was diverted from its patrol to the area of the incident.

Detective Inspector Paul Miller, of High Wycombe CID, said: "This incident allegedly involved a gun.

"We take these kinds of incidents very seriously and an operation was mounted on Thursday as an immediate response."

In another incident, an armed robber held up a betting shop in a busy Marlow street.

A lone shop worker in Ladbrokes in Spittal Street was held up at gunpoint by an armed robber brandishing a sawn-off shotgun on Friday evening.

The robber escaped with £3,000.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard List, said: "These are serious incidents and are not linked. In relation to the incident in Desborough Road, I would like to thank local people for their co-operation.

"While at the scene I was very impressed by the positive response that I received from both local people and local traders. Thank you to you all."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the raid at Ladbrokes in Spittal Street, Marlow on Friday evening.

The offender is described as a white male, 5ft 8ins tall, medium build, bald and clean shaven.

Sukhpal Singh, 25, of Oakridge Road, High Wycombe was charged in connection with an incident on Thursday.

He is charged with robbery, possession of an imitation firearm, driving without a licence and without insurance, plus a further charge of blackmail .

He will appear at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday.
