Speed humps set to go in Cressex

RESIDENTS have been warned to expect severe disruptions and delays while engineers carry out work to remove speed humps in Cressex Road.

But the news has been welcomed by many living along the busy main road, who back Buckinghamshire County Council's plans to replace the humps with traffic islands.

Graham Rimmington, who has lived in Cressex Road since 1979, said: "Last summer you could not have your windows open because of the noise. It's that bad.

"Hopefully when the work is done, we'll have a scheme that keeps speeds low and keeps casualties low, but also has significant improvements on environmental effects."

Road humps were laid in March, 2002, after residents urged the county council to deal with speeding motorists and an increase in accidents.

However noise generated by vehicles passing over humps made life unbearable, prompting 87 per cent of residents to back the £150,000 scheme.

Ian McGowan, team leader for team safety at the council, added: "We are trying to be more open and active by listening to the views of residents."

Site engineers hope to complete the work by May.
