Sheila Webb, Chesham.
There's singing and there's dancing
At the party in our street
It's springtime here in London
And it's such a special treat
The bunting's gently flapping
Lovely colours in a row
I'm all dressed up in my Sunday best
With my hair tied in a bow.
There's lots of yummy jelly
With orange juice as well
I've helped myself to seconds
But I hope that you won't tell.
My Mummy's really happy
Over there with Auntie Jen
I haven't seen her laugh like this
Since I can't remember when.
With rows and rows of tables
There's food stretched out for miles
And everyone from all around
At last have found their smiles.
Mum says the war is over
And that fears and bombs will go
It's all a bit confusing
As it's really
all I know.
I'm happy here with all my friends
And happy I'm not alone
But most of all I'm happy
'Cos my Daddy's coming home!
