THIS YEAR'S FETE was enjoyed by a good crowd entertained by a variety of activities in the event ring, ranging from a procession of vintage cars, including a gleaming pink Cadillac., breathtaking displays by Thame Duellists and football displays by Haddenham Youth Football Club. Music was provided by Thame Concert band whilst children enjoyed a range of attractions including a bouncy castle and pony rides. Just about every organisation in the village had stalls. Teas were served in the marquee bought with last year's proceeds (it is now available for hire). Our thanks are due to Tim Armitt and his committee for organising the day.

FLORRIE MANN, 93, has retired from preaching after 67 years. Her final service was held at Christ Church, Thame on Sunday when she was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Lucy Jennings of Haddenham on behalf of the Watlington Circuit. The service was conducted by the Reverend Charlotte Collins. The Reverend Andy Bryer, circuit minister, presented Florrie with a framed certificate showing when she was accredited 67 years ago. One of the hymns at the service was written by Florrie and the music was composed by her husband, Norman, who played the organ for the service. Friends came from all over England and from Canada where Florrie had served in British Columbia and Ontario. The service was followed by a special lunch. Florries's preaching has taken her from Liverpool to London (where she was a civil servant) to Sudbury and to High Wycombe in 1962 where she taught at St Mark's Sunday School. In 1969 they moved to Princes Risborough where she organised a holiday club and edited the church magazine.

The couple spent time in Canada having been offered a lay pastorate in the Rockies. A move to Haddenham in 1986 saw them involved with the Whitechapel Mission helping underprivileged people, editing the church magazine and all this with a smile and a wave as Florrie walks briskly around the village and Norman keeps up in his new buggy. We wish them well.
