SUMMER FAIR takes place at Manor Farm Pre School in Rose Avenue tomorrow from midday until 3pm. There will be fun for all.

OPEN GARDENS SUNDAY was a great success and a large number of people visited some wonderful gardens in aid of Village Care. It was also a day for seeing people that you haven't seen for awhile. My wife was recognised by a lady she had taught 30 years ago. It must be living with me that keeps her young.

Village Care would like to thank everybody who allowed their garden to be visited and to the people who paid to go round. The next move for you is to be a volunteer and either be a driver or a telephonist for this worthwhile village cause.

VILLAGE SHOW entry forms are now in most shops in the village, the village hall and the nursery on Hammersley Lane. It takes place in the village hall on Saturday, July 9 from 2.15pm.

CELEBRATIONS remembering the end of the Second World War take place over July 1, 2 and 3. This will be a very busy time in the villages.

On Friday, July 1 there is a tea party for the residents who lived through the war wherever they were. At present there are over 60 people expected, some travelling from far afield. The partygoers will enjoy a special tea, a sing song and entertainment. This will all take place in a marquee which will also house an exhibition entitled "Penn and Tylers Green in the Second World War". If you have any photos or items that could be used please contact Tina Brown at warmemories@pennandtylersgreen.com CRICKET and the first eleven have got the winning habit back after a lean start to the season. Last Monday they defeated Winchmore Hill by three runs in the Chilterns League Knockout Cup first round. They play away to Little Kingshill on Monday in the next round.

They followed this win up with a comprehensive win over Binfield on Saturday. Batting first Paul Francis 104 and Peter Harold 93 ensured Penn of a big total 290 all out, which Binfield never looked like reaching being all out for 177, Paul Francis taking 3-43.

The second eleven had a close match at local rivals Winchmore Hill. Having restricted Winchmore to 220 all out they quickly lost wickets and looked out of the match. However a sparkling 79 from 14 year old J Smith and 42 from J Bayliss took them in reach of victory, however the fall of both these batsmen saw them dismissed for 194.

I attended part of this match and it was a delight to watch all of the Winchmore Hill team applaud Smith back to the pavilion after his dismissal they appreciated the quality of his innings, as did I.

FUN RUN is on Sunday and if you are not running you can still be out around the course or on the common to give support to those who are taking part. Most importantly you can also make a charity donation to the very worthwhile charity that the event helps.
