A MEMORIAL PLAQUE dedicated to the memory of Eric Silvey, for many years captain of the tower and steeple keeper at All Saints Church, is planned for the church tower after the 170-year-old church clock has been restored.

A fund has been established to raise £5,000 for the restoration of the clock, which was originally built and installed by John Moore and Son, a firm founded in 1790.

The history of the clock is included in the latest issue of The Bridge, All Saints' magazine. Writers John Hollis and Stanley Jones say: "For some time the clock has needed a great deal of attention. After awhile all clocks develop odd and quirky ways calling frequently for the touch of a master's hand. Eric supplied that touch. Others have done their best but nothing less than a complete restoration will suffice."

Donations to the All Saints Clock Fund may be made to the church treasurer, Peter Manley, c/o the parish office; telephone 01628 481806.
