HUNDREDS of Bucks Free Press readers have got in touch to protest against plans for a high speed rail link through the county.
Campaign coupons have been pouring into our office from readers concerned at the impact the proposed route would have on the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Plans released by Lord Adonis, the Secretary of State for Transport, show the Government's preferred route for the High Speed 2 project would go through a tunnel under Old Amersham and the Chalfonts, before passing close to Great Missenden.
It has sparked outrage among residents with protest groups being set up and public meetings being held to express opposition to the plans, which would see trains running at 250mph through south Bucks.
Many of you have also filled out the online form on our website to take part in the campaign.
Kirsten Gates from Great Missenden said the plans were “a ludicrous and expensive scheme” that would “destroy the Chilterns”, with Saunderton resident John Hughes saying the Chilterns “should be conserved and enhanced, not trashed”.
Jessica Simpson of South Heath said: “This is an ill-thought through, expensive, environmentally destructive proposal which will benefit no-one in the communities it will pass through.”
