What a match, what a game, what a result. Wycombe's progress in the Carling Cup has ground to a halt but what a way to go.
It was wonderful football. Wycombe fans thought they had cracked it at half time when the scoreboard read Wycombe 3 Villa 1. It was the best they had seen their team play. It was joyful.
Three goals from Tyson, Johnson and Mooney and one from Milan Baros for Villa. "You had to pinch yourself to believe it" said one Wycombe supporter.
Standing on the brink of disaster Aston Villa came out in the second half all guns blazing and stole the game from Wycombe with a barrage of goals.
The final whistle blew and it was Wycombe Wanderers 3 Aston Villa 8 but the scoreline hides the truth that Wycombe played outstanding football.
"The first half made me realise why I love football and the second why I hate football" said one Wycombe fan.
