SCHOOL children in Holmer Green are still being urged to have their parents pick them up after an assault on a young girl in the village.
On Wednesday, September 7, a ten-year-old was walking to her friend's house along Harries Way from the corner junction with Watchet Lane, between 8am and 8.10am.
A car pulled up beside her and the driver reached out of the passenger window to grab her wrist, but the girl managed to break free and ran off.
A teacher at a school said that parents had been sent letters advising them to pick up their children at the end of each school day.
She said: "I am always at the school gate to ensure that no child goes home on their own unless I have received written permission from a parent."
The teacher added that parents were pleased with the measures taken and that until they were satisfied that their children were safe the policy would continue.
She said: "The children were very frightened.
"But parents and teachers have talked to them and they seem to have recovered well."
A worried parent said after the incident: "It makes us worry about how safe this district is."
Police described the man as white, of medium build, who was driving a black saloon car.
The incident follows a sexual assault in the village on Tuesday, August 23, when a man approached a 12-year-old girl outside the Bat and Ball pub, in Penfold Lane.
