WANDERERS assistant manager Steve Brown hopes Saturday's narrow win over Barnet will kickstart the Blues' promotion drive after four matches without a win.

He said: "After four draws it's a breath of fresh air to finally get a win and hopefully we can kick on from this. We didn't play the fluent football we have done in recent weeks but the important thing was to get a win. It was a bit nervy at times."

Nathan Tyson scored his tenth goal of the season to ensure Blues' first three point maximum since August 20 and to maintain their proud record of being the only unbeaten team in all three divisions of the Football League.

But while Tyson attracted the headlines, the victory was just as much down to the heroics of keeper Frank Talia who had come in for some stick from the supporters for his recent performances.

He made a match-saving point blank save from Dean Sinclair late on as Barnet seized on Wycombe's increasing nervousness to almost snatch a draw.

Brown said: "Frank never lost any faith in his own ability and that was just a normal game for Frank. The only people that have given Frank any stick are the supporters.

"We all know what Frank's ability is like and because he's made a couple of mistakes over the last few weeks doesn't mean he's not able to stop those. That was the Frank we know, reliable and we can depend on him."

"We didn't play the fluent football that we have done over the past few weeks but different sides come here with different objections. They came here to defend and played with one up front. It was a bit nervy at times Tyson got the only goal of the game after 21 minutes and it was a goal worthy of winning any match.

Sergio Torres, in for Kevin Betsy who was benched because of a calf complaint, darted in from the right to feed Joe Burnell with a crisp pass. Burnell turned it on first time for Tyson to race onto and despatch first time past Bees' glovesman Ross Flitney.

For the next 40 minutes or so it was business as usual with Wycombe pummelling the Barnet defence but not making the breakthrough.

Torres should have made it 2-0 when Tommy Mooney's cushioned header gave him a clear sight of goal, but with time on his side the Argentinian went for placement instead of power and allowed Flitney to deflect his effort against the base of the post.

Burnell also went close with one effort deflected wide and another slashed wildly high.

The start of the second half brought more of the same.

Mooney rounded the keeper and pulled the ball back for Tyson, but he couldn't finish it off and spread it wide for Torres who couldn't apply the killer touch either.

Wycombe continued to pile forward. Flitney tipped Mike Williamson's header over the crossbar as Wycombe, driven on by the impressive Torres, continued to push.

The colourful South American then slipped in Tyson but on this occasion the former England U20 international aimed too close to the keeper.

With Wycombe missing chances at will, Barnet sensed that it might be their day after all and as Wanderers became more and more jittery the visitors began to press men forward for the first time in the afternoon.

Nick Bailey gave Wanderers warning when he wastefully headed Ian Hendon's centre over the bar. Then Roger Johnson had to head Guillano Grazioli's effort off the line and Richard Graham blazed the follow-up wide.

The visitors came closer still on 83 minutes. Grazioli could have scored himself but passed the chance up to Sinclair and the delay gave time for Talia to react and keep out his effort.

Blues boss John Gorman said: "It was frustrating but it was a comfortable win.

"I couldn't believe their manager saying they were worth a draw. They only came at us in the last 15 minutes.

"With better finishing in front of goal we could have won quite comfortably."
