ORGANISERS of Beaconsfield's annual Country Fayre have called for more local businesses to support the event after just a handful have so far offered to contribute.
Forty letters were sent out to retailers and other businesses last month with a stamped addressed envelope enclosed, but only six firms responded.
The companies to reply have all offered some form of sponsorship for the Fayre, which takes place in the Old Town on August 30.
Sylvia Jones, co-chairman of the Country Fayre, said: “A lot of our businesses are London-based so are dormitory here. But it's important we try and retain a community spirit and this is probably the town's major event of the year.
“I hand-delivered all letters and just thought 'heavens above we are supposed to be doing something for the Old Town'.
“I went to the Gerrards Cross fun run this year and I was amazed that all the retailers were there sponsoring the event.”
Last year nearly 5000 people attended the Fayre, which is jointly organised by Beaconsfield Lions, Beaconsfield Rotary Club, Iain Rennie Hospice at Home and The Friends of St Mary's Church.
Beaconsfield Round Table organise the popular Stretcher Race, which takes place on the day of the Fayre. Teams carry one member round a course on a stretcher, stopping at pubs along the way.
The businesses which have offered prizes or sponsorship include Basmati, Forever Green, Sunflower Framing, Tim Russ and Company and John Whittenbury Financial Services.
Traveltime have offered a holiday in a Spanish villa worth about £1,000, which will be a prize on the day.
Contact Sylvia Jones if you can help sponsor the event on 01753 889384.

I find it interesting that everyone knows that we should be tightening our purse strings and that these are difficult times for everybody. Yet most people seem to think that their business/industry/pe
t project should be exempt and that it is some sort of afront if others don't think so.
