A DISTRICT councillor has asked Lane End for its views on a proposed new sports stadium saying “I don't know whether it is the right thing to do”.

Speaking at Lane End Parish Council last night Jean Teesdale encouraged parishioners to make their feelings heard.

The proposed new stadium for Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps would replace Adams Park and council and club bosses refer to it as a ‘sports village’.

Chairman Graeme Coulter said it is going to affect the parish as Wycombe Air Park in Booker is being suggested as a proposed site, along with 18 others.

Cllr Teesdale, who is a cabinet member for planning, said: “I need to know whether people are for it or against it. We want to represent you fairly and honestly.

“I have to be very honest with you. I don't know whether it is the right thing to do. I need to know what you think to make sure the majority view does get passed back to the district council.

“It is the early stages. It is important to say we may go through all these stages and there is a clause which says we may decided to do nothing.”

One parishioner asked “why the secrecy” on plans about the stadium.

Cllr Teesdale said: “All we are consulting on at the moment is the core strategy to allow such a thing to built into AONB and the area we have got. There are no plans. I cannot tell you any more. We haven't got those plans and there is no planning application at this stage.”

She asked for residents to email her at jean_teesdale@wycombe.gov.uk.

The public consultation begins in September.
