Firefighters called to accident in Marlow

TWO pedestrians are in hospital after a car collision in Market Square, Marlow yesterday.

A 74-year-old woman from Station Road, Marlow sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Wexham Park Hospital and is in a stable condition.

A 16-year-old boy from Newfield Gardens, Marlow sustained minor injuries and was treated at Wexham Park Hospital before being released.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened at approximately 4.40pm at the roundabout junction of the High Street with Spittal Street and involved a green Morris Minor classic car and the two pedestrians.

Shoppers and shop workers lifted the car to free the pensioner, witnesses said.

Two fire engines from Marlow and High Wycombe attended. Firefighters assisted South Central Ambulance Service and made the scene safe.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact PC Daniel Collett at Amersham Roads Policing department on 08458 505505 quoting URN 1700 09/08/2010.

how do you know what happened here, maybe the pedestrians didn't look where they were going or stepped out?, talk about knee-jerk reaction!

I suspect the fact it was a Morri Minor involved might have some bearing.

I totally agree with 678. You don't know what happened, so don't make assumptions.

No, speculations shouldn't be made about who was at fault until you have the facts. Yes, I agree it may not have been the fault of the driver (who, allegedely may have suffered a seizure) but in this instance the pedestrians were not...the car mounted the pavement.

I think it looks like a question, as i put when as the first word. and the next line is a statement now if i had said they should learn how to drive then that would of been an assumption .. if you check my comments about the other accidents featured this week you would understand why i have put it .

Speculation is unhelpful. Facts are, as confirmed to the police, by a number of witnesses, that the car mounted the pavement near Steamers knocking down both the lady and the 16 year old lad. They were dragged along the pavement, under the car, until the driver attempted to steer the car back onto the road outside Boots. There is no question that either of the casualities were attempting to cross the road - they were not, simply walking the pavement when the car mowed them down from behind. What caused the driver to mount the pavement is a matter for the police. The police yellow trace marks show the route across the pavement the car took. Whether or not the car was road legal, taxed and insured is a matter again for the police.

Of course this is a real test for the Town's CCTV system which costs us tax payers each year. I would hope that the investigating officer uses the footage to confirm facts to his own satisfaction.

Probably a pensioner driving the morris minor. As I've said before these old people are as dangerous as boy racers and should face health checks and retests.

The driver is an intelligent professional woman NOT of pensionable age, who suffered a blackout, the cause of which is being investigated by trained medics. So I suggest you Marlow bigots get back to your cappuccinos and crosswords and stop speculating on events which you cannot understand.
