Concerns raised over merger of two wards at Wycombe Hospital

Concerns raised over merger of two hospital wards Concerns raised over merger of two hospital wards

CONCERNS have been raised over the proposed merger of two wards for older people at Wycombe Hospital.

Health bosses are consulting on plans to merge wards 4a and 4b, which provide care for older people and medical and orthopaedic rehabilitation respectively.

They are on the fourth floor of the ‘tower block’ at the Queen Alexandra Road hospital.

Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust said the move was being taken as care will be provided in community hospitals such as Amersham and Marlow.

This will “refocus what happens within our acute wards” a spokesman said.

She said no job losses are planned and staff will be able to work on the new ward or another medical ward.

Spokesman Sarah Hills said she was unable to give bed numbers for the new ward as the 'bed usage will completely change'.

It has made the move after taking on community hospitals from Community Health Buckinghamshire, part of NHS Buckinghamshire health authority.

Alan Sealy, whose 91-year-old mother-in-law Vera Witts spent a week on 4a, said he was concerned.

He said: “She was extremely well looked after, but the ward was absolutely full and beds were filled as soon as one became empty.”

The Jordans resident added: “My concern about the merger is that normally change costs money unless you are making people redundant.”

He said he feared beds would be cut and the bid to treat them in the community is “simply not credible when you look at the patients in ward 4a”.

Patricia Marquis, the regional director for the Royal College of Nursing union, said: “We now need to see all the details finalised to ensure that services can meet the needs of patients in the long term.”

Very well spotted, Morag.
The use of a photo, complete with attribute caption, puts into question the credibility of the Bucks Free Press as a reliable and princlpled publication.
I have often wondered if Ivor is a pseudonym of an ex-employee of the BFP. The cynical and provocative style of writing of his blogs puts me in mind of a gentleman I met some 10 or more years ago.
That said, I have read his latest blog on A-levels and I'm frightened that my blood pressure might have gone off the scale!

consulting?? with who?? Believe me this is a done deal! And as for no job losses, what about, for example the 2 ward clerks? 1 will go. What is happening is staff have to reapply for their jobs, half of which will lose out and be given another job that they dont want to do, get p*ssed off and leave. Nice and tidy for the trust, no redundancy, no sackings....looks good on paper. And they really think we dont know what they are doing. If any are reading this, your not clever, not fooling anyone, we know what your up to, the only reason you are getting away with it is lack of publicity, because all the public hear is no doctors or nurses are getting sacked. Smug gits.

The photograph by Ivor was used in error and has been replaced by our own file photograph, taken by our photographer. This has been used several times over the years, as shown here:

The original photo Miccles had "photo by Ivor" in the corner which is 'Ivor's' trademark if you see what I mean. Morag pointed it out and Oliver Evans hastily removed it..
We were just musing really...;)

That's what it's all about is it not ? - musing by the 3 Muses - incorporating Mirth , Good Cheer and Creativity as the Greeks ( Geeks ?) would have it.
.
A self-styled 'exposer' exposed via the misuse of an under-exposed exposure.

Well done - I wish certain other people would observe and research more thoroughly their chosen subject matter. Wistful wishful thinking probably.
