INSPIRATIONAL Bucks youngsters are gearing up to take on Mount Snowdon later this month to raise money for a dream trip to Morocco in May.

Fifteen care-givers and two staff from Carers Bucks, a charity that supports young people who look after sick family members, are looking to scale the Welsh peak dressed as characters from Disney film Toy Story.

They hope to raise around £1,000 each for the challenge that will see them tackle the Atlas Mountains in Northern Africa.

Sarah Beavis, a young carers coordinator from High Wycombe said: “The Snowdon climb will be a good fund-raising and training opportunity for the guys. None of us have done anything like this before and we were looking for something that would deliver a sense of achievement.”

The charity, based in Aylesbury and High Wycombe, is working with Schools Worldwide to give the 15 to 19-year-olds a break from their everyday responsibilities, which include looking after poorly, physically and/or mentally disabled and terminally-ill parents or siblings, in some cases full-time.

The young carers, who helped come up with the idea, say they are relishing the challenge and see it as a great opportunity to meet other people in similar situations.

Ben Chivers, 18, from High Wycombe, said: “The trips to Snowdon and hopefully Morocco will be a great confidence building exercise for us and a really good chance for everyone to get to know each other better.”

Jack Turner, 20, also from the town, said: “Can you imagine it? Woody and Buzz Lightyear at the top of Snowdon – it would be amazing.”
