Motorists facing delays in High Wycombe

ROAD works are causing huge delays in Abbey Barn Lane in High Wycombe this morning.

Road maintenance work being carried out by Buckinghamshire County Council has caused tailbacks along the High Wycombe road.

Some angry motorists have reported delays of up to 30 minutes along the stretch.

The work is scheduled to be completed tomorrow, says the council.

Same day as the M40 upgrade starts between Loudwater and Handy Cross - brilliant timing!

Would it not have been easier to do this in the 6 weeks of the summer holidays????

mind you, because its Wycombe, they don't care do they.

Ah joy - the same day as temporary traffic lights on Desborough Avenue too...

Mind you - overall it's still less roadworks than I've been negotiating over the school holidays.

Though admittedly it's mainly outside of South Bucks that they have been doing school holiday roadworks.

I can't beleive that all these drivers were unaware of the impending road works. Both the M40 and the Abbey Barn Lane roadworks have been publised.
In the case of Abbey Barn Lane there have been notices of the closure at the top and bottom of the Lane for some time. Why not find a suitable alternative route for a couple of days?
It was also highly lightly that the A40 would be busy East of Wycombe, causing tailbacks in Abbey Barn Road whilst there are roadworks on the M40, so the obvious solution is to allow extra time for the journey.
Unfortunately because of the volume of traffic using these routes any neccessary maintenance work will cause delays.

Desborough Avenue was solid both directions this morning. No in advance warning there as I drive that stretch 4 x daily. The (stationary) cars were full of nervous looking kids and parents being late for school - great start.

I parked up and walked.

I use this route 5 days a week and there have been no signs at the top or bottom of Abbey Barn Lane

this shows you what a waste of space our council is . this work should have been done in the school hols.
but no the council sits on there backsides.

ive lost total respect for the councils
they should all be lined up and shot.
its the only thing left for them

Is this on about Abbey Barn Lane or Abbey Barn Road?, it says Abbey Barn Way in the opening line but I wasn't aware there was an Abbey Barn Way? - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

re: your comment regards notices.
I beg to differ I also use Abbey Barn Lane ..sometimes several times a day ..
I know that there has been a notice top & bottom of the Lane.
Obviously not clear enough for some.
Oh and perhaps this is why so many drivers fail to give way to traffic ascending the hill ..even though there is a sign as the road narrows over the bridge!!

You are right it's Abbey Barn Lane that is closed. Which in turn affects Abbey Barn Road which joins the A40 and the junction there has caused bottlenecks for years.
Both of these roads are at Wycombe Marsh.
Abbey Way is that short stretch of the A40 in Wycombe before the Rye, traffic very quickly comes to a standstill there whenever there is congestion further down the road. Thus my comment about the A40 East of Wycombe.

That's what confused me - I initially read it as Abbey Way, as in the flyover, hence my comment about Desborough Avenue - that really would be poor timing!

I do think the Desborough Ave traffic lights are emergency works, and not planned though - definitely no warning...

If only we could now figure out how long the M40 ones are going to last - I've seen four different time period so far - 12, 13, 14 and 16 weeks! I'm hoping for the first option, but planning for the last! :)

Aha, now changed by BFP and says "Abbey Barn Lane" in the opening line not "Abbey Barn Way" as previously!!

They haven't filled in all the potholes yet!
~
Please could the powers the be work on eradicating the potholes before embarking on other types of road repair.

Don't try Spring Lane, it can't take the extra traffic. Too much of it is one way
