Wycombe homes left without phone and internet

Wycombe homes left without phone and internet Wycombe homes left without phone and internet

ABOUT 500 homes in High Wycombe have been left without phone and internet access, according to a resident.

Brands Hill Avenue resident Richard Atkinson said his line went dead at around 2am this morning, leaving the neighbourhood without phone and internet access.

He said: “I was woken up at 2am as the line is connected to my alarm.

“I went outside and the a lot of the neighbours were outside looking around. We notified BT and a team came out today.

“They told us that about 500 homes had been hit and that it may take a couple of days to sort out.

“It's a bit of pain, it doesn't affect me too much, but I know a number of people here who work from home and this has left them a little stuck.”

BT have yet to confirm to the Bucks Free Press how the technical fault occurred.

More to come when we get it.

why would you go outside at 2am just because your phone doesnt work, most people arent even up then. what were these thousands of people doing exactly?

How bizarre. I find it strange people were standing outside at 2am because they had no phone or internet.

The alarm will go off if you have a monitored alarm system and the phoneline gets disconnected (it could be thieves cutting the line).. so presumably lots of alarms went off at 2am and everyone went outside thinking it was the apocalypse, or something

how disappointing for them that it wasnt and was only BT larking around wow so many people in that street must have monitored alarm systems

Thank you to the BFP for pointing out that because of this failure the alarms in that area are not working properly.

I am sure that there are a few people in Wycombe who will find that information very interesting.

I may be wrong, but if you have a monitored house alarm, then the bells and sirens will not sound if you have an intruder or a power/telephone failure.
What happens is that the monitoring company will call you to check if there is a problem. If they are unable to to get hold of you, then they arrange for the cops to attend
Apparently this is one of the rules agreed by the police/alarm companies
This is meant to allow the cops to catch the intruders red-handed (assuming they get there in time),

Our line is out in Hazlemere - BT says they will repair by 13th Sept. Great, especially as 2 people work from home. Luckily there are plenty of Internet cafes, coffee shops or we can actually commute to the office.
+
I wonder if this is another cable theft as happened a few years ago. It did rain hard the night the line died though (not ideal thieving scrote weather).

There are a number of cables running up 'here' from the exchange - its luck of the draw which cable you're connected to. It seems the thieving scrotes tried to take the same cable as last time (see newer article on this site)
