A PHONE line was cut in an attempted copper theft which left more than 200 homes without phone and internet access, BT has confirmed.
BT spokesman Emma Littlewood told the Bucks Free Press today that a cable in Amersham Hill, High Wycombe, was slashed in the early hours of Tuesday.
The company believe it was an attempted copper theft, she said.
The cable has the capacity to cater for up to 1200 homes but the communications firm said just over 200 customers had reported a fault.
Work is currently ongoing to restore phone lines to the affected area but residents are not expected to be able to surf the internet or make landline calls until Friday.
Temporary traffic lights have been set up on Amersham Hill while repairs are carried out.
Brands Hill Avenue resident Richard Atkinson told the BFP that he was awoken at around 2am yesterday by his alarm which is connected to the phone line.
He said: “I went outside and the a lot of the neighbours were outside looking around. We notified BT and a team came out today.
“It's a bit of pain, it doesn't affect me too much, but I know a number of people here who work from home and this has left them a little stuck.”

I received a text message from my telephone provider TalkTalk at 8.12 am this morning telling me that engineers had checked my line and there was nothing wrong with it.
.
Funny - that was the reason I did not report it.
