THE greenest fingers in Chesham have been rewarded for their blooming great displays that have helped brighten up the town.
Residents and businesses received prizes in three different categories at the Chesham in Bloom awards on Thursday.
The award for the best front garden went to Maureen and Peter East of Captains Close – but green-fingered Sylvia and Roy Greenwood from the aptly-named Rose Drive won best container and came third in the best front garden category.
The business award went to the Queens Head pub in Church Street.
Retired Mr and Mrs East said they were “absolutely delighted” to win.
Mrs East said: “We have worked hard on it but had no idea we were winners.
“We do it together and take a lot of pride in it. We've been in this house for 40 years and we've changed it quite considerably.”
She joked: “My husband does the majority of the work, but I tell him what to do.”
The awards and certificates were handed out by Chesham Mayor Jane Bramwell at the Town Hall.
She said the entries were “amazing”.
Cllr Bramwell said: “It's interesting talking to people and finding out how much work they have put in.
“None of them do it with a view to win an award, they do it because they enjoy gardening. It makes the town look lovely.”
