THE site which Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps want to build their new stadium on will be announced on Tuesday.

Wycombe Sports Developments Limited, representing the two clubs, says, from their perspective, there is only one suitable site.

The details will be revealed at a press conference at Adams Park.

Wycombe District Council leader Cllr Lesley Clarke dismissed Liberal Democrat claims the announcement will make its recently launched public consultation “a sham”.

WSDL said the council consultation is totally separate, adding it is “clear” on how and where it wants to deliver the stadium and wants to be “open and explicit” about it.

WSDL spokesman Ben Copithorne said: "The press conference is about updating people on how we have been developing the vision for a new community stadium and sports village in Wycombe and how they can get involved in shaping the future of the proposals.

“We have been working hard on our own ideas for how and where the full sports and community benefits of the project can be achieved because we want to build a sustainable and successful future here in High Wycombe.

“There is only one site which, from WSDL and the clubs' point of view, will enable us to realise the full range of sports and community benefits that this opportunity offers."

Cllr Steve Guy, Lib Dem leader at WDC, believes “nobody's going to be surprised” about the location.

He expects it will be Wycombe Air Park in Booker, Great Marlow.

Nineteen sites were short listed but planning boss Jerry Unsworth admitted some of these might not be 'sensible'.

Cllr Guy said:“We are concerned that the consultation is just a sham and they have already made their mind up,” he said.

“If there's another valid site I've heard nothing about it.”

Cllr Clarke accused Lib Dems of 'peddling lies' by claiming the Air Park was the council's chosen location in July.

Readers should not assume the council shares the club's view about the preferred site, she said.

“Until it (the consultation) finishes we won't know what the outcome is and then we'll be making our decision early in the New Year,” she said.

“ And until then it doesn't matter, they could want, this, that and the other.

"It doesn't mean to say that we actually agree with them. There's no sham at all.”

Asked if it was unhelpful to the council that the clubs will make the announcement next week, Cllr Clarke said: “No, not at all.”

She issued this message to residents: “Please do take part, we want to hear from everyone about it and let's see what the consultation brings.”

Householders can complete a survey or attend a series of drop in sessions to give their views on the stadium.
