FEARS that Lane End would lose its character and become part of High Wycombe if Booker Air Park was chosen in the stadium consultation has prompted a meeting on Monday.

Lane End Parish Council has arranged an extraordinary meeting with planning member Jerry Unsworth attending to answer any questions about the Wycombe Stadium and Sports project.

Wycombe District Council longlisted 19 sites for consideration for a new stadium which it has shortlisted to Booker Air Park, Abbey Barn South and Adams Park for public consultation.

But last week it was confirmed Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps are “backing Booker” for the proposed stadium.

Parish council vice-chairman Michael Detsiny said: “We all will be extremely surprised if Booker Air Park was not the chosen site.

“There is the possibility of something absolutely enormous on the doorstep of Lane End which, almost by definition, will change its character completely.

“It would literally make it part of Wycombe. There would be no gap between Wycombe and Lane End.”

The stadium itself would have a 17,500 – 20,000 capacity, and would also include a cricket pitch, five-a-side pitches and athletics facilities.

Commercial space, a hotel and a connected residential development could also form part of the project.

Cllr Detsiny said: “It is hugely important as far as Lane End is concerned. We are doing what we can in a short space of time.

“All we are saying is that there is this opportunity to listen to someone from Wycombe District Council.”

He said although meetings and exhibitions were arranged in Marlow, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough there was not one arranged for Lane End until the parish council stepped in.

The meeting will be on Monday, October 11 at 7.30pm at the Lane End Youth and Community Centre in Edmonds Road with the public invited to attend whether they are for or against the possibility of the development.
