High Wycombe man repatriated and funeral details announced

THIRTY-year-old Andrew Brown who died in a Peru plane crash was a driving force behind a Wycombe website delivering information about news and sport.

Andrew from High Wycombe died on Saturday, October 2 when the light aircraft he was travelling in made an emergency landing on the way to the tourist attraction The Nazca Lines. He was repatriated at the weekend.

The keen traveller set up the website 'Wycombe on the Net' ten years ago as he had an interest in current affairs and politics.

His dad, Peter Brown, a semi-retired journalist from Tylers Green helped out and wrote news for the site while Andrew did the technical side and the sports reports.

Andrew had taken the site off air earlier in the year and was redesigning it to include pictures to launch around Christmas time.

Mr Brown said: “A lot of people read it. I don't know how many hits but quite a lot of people went to it. He did enjoy it- it was quite a commitment seven days a week. I was happy to help out.

“It was going to be relaunched at Christmas but we have called all that to an halt now.”

The site is now suspended.

Mr Brown, 62, added: “Without him being the driving force, doing all the technical stuff. I couldn't do all that. I will see how I feel in a few months time.”.

His friend and Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust colleague Gayle Callow, 34, also lost her life in the crash, as did two more Britons, Warren Denham and Alistair Rowe, both 34 and the two pilots.

Andrew and Gayle were repatriated together at the weekend.

There is an ongoing inquiry into the crash and someone from Air Accident Investigation Branch in the UK have joined the inquiry.

Andrew's funeral will be held on Friday, October 22 at 1pm at Chilterns Crematorium in Amersham, followed by a gathering at the Tylers Green Village Hall.

Only family flowers please. Donations welcome which will be split between Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Fund. Details from Beacon Funeral Services in Rose Avenue, Hazlemere on 01494 818181.

I'm very sorry indeed to hear this news. It is a great loss.

Andrew Brown's Wycombe on the Net has been an outstanding news service; I read it daily for years and have been impatient for the new beginning. Although I never knew the author, his personality shone through.

My condolences to his family and friends.
