Statement from Mike Brooks, the chief executive of Wycombe Sports Developments Ltd, in response to Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Trust:

“We are of course disappointed by the overall conclusion but there are some good signs of common ground that we can build on and we will maintain a strong ongoing dialogue.

“I think probably the early stage of the project has led to this outcome for now.

“Put simply we are not in a position to provide the sort of financial guarantees which the Trust is seeking.

“We have shared with them confidential financial projections which demonstrate how the Club will benefit, but we cannot at this stage commit to certain financial structures or enter into commercial arrangements.  We don’t even have an agreed site yet.

“I think this is perfectly understandable and there is a lot of time for further discussion and consultation as we develop these plans further.

“We must remember that at the moment the Club loses money, even with a strong rental income from Wasps and income from non- match day hospitality.

“If Wycombe Wanderers are to deliver on their ambitions to become a Championship Club they need to be financially sustainable, generate increased income and provide far improved facilities for supporters, players and academy.

“A new Community Stadium and Sports Village will allow this to be delivered.  Without it the Club risks stagnation and decline.

“I therefore welcome the comments that the case for improved access and facilities have been well made as have the benefits for the wider community and that there are no planning objections in principle subject to the points made.

“Our door will remain open to the Trust and its members.

“In the meantime I have one simple request for those supporters who remain sceptical about these plans - don’t rule this out at this early stage.

“I understand that there will need to be more financial information shared and more work done on detailed structural matters, and I am publicly stating that I believe that WWFC will be financially better off as a result of these plans than without them.

“Plus a new stadium at Booker would deliver a fantastic experience to watch football.  The sight-lines, bars, catering, toilets and match-day experience would all be massively improved, as will access and parking.

“At the same time we would have team and academy facilities which would help attract the very best talent and we would have the scope to deal with much larger attendances from both home and away support.

“There is still much more work to be done before any of this becomes a reality but we have a real opportunity here to benefit the Club and the community at the same time.”
