LANE End Parish Council is wholly against a community stadium at Booker Air Park and last night said it was going to be an “uphill struggle”.

The village council called an extraordinary meeting last month with Wycombe District Council planning officer Jerry Unsworth about the proposed Wycombe Stadium and Sports project, focusing on the option of the site at Booker.

At last night's parish meeting chairman Graeme Coulter said the parish council has put forward a submission to Wycombe District Council, focusing on the “big issues” including the fact the site is in the Green Belt and its dissatisfaction with the consultation process.

He said: “As a parish council we are wholly opposed to the notion of development at Booker” and said it would prefer the current location at Adams Park to be developed.

Wycombe District Council longlisted 19 sites for consideration for a new stadium which it has shortlisted to Booker Air Park, Abbey Barn South and Adams Park.

Cllr Coulter said as a parish council it is difficult for it to be involved in a working group but “that is not to say” it cannot support an action group or individual members to take part.

He said the consultation process is open to criticism. He said: “For a start they should dedicate it to the electoral roll- people who live in Wycombe.”

Cllr Mike Detsiny added: “It is going to be an uphill struggle.” He said the “whole thing is a charade” and “it is clearly going to be Booker.”

He said what they really need is a working group set up with people with planning knowledge and legal minds.

The stadium itself would have a 17,500 – 20,000 capacity, and would also include a cricket pitch, five-a-side pitches and athletics facilities. Commercial space, a hotel and connected residential development could also form part of the project.

Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps are “backing Booker” for the proposed stadium in the public consultation.
