WASPS legend Lawrence Dallaglio has insisted that the proposed Wycombe Community Stadium would not just benefit the rugby and football teams.

The club director – as well as owner Steve Hayes – has backed Wycombe Air Park as the best site for the stadium and sports village proposal in an email sent to club supporters.

Despite traffic concerns and the potential loss of green belt land Mr Dallaglio is convinced the overall benefits would far outweigh these costs.

“It’s not just about Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps, it’s about creating a legacy for the people and the surrounding area,” said the 38-year-old World Cup winner.

“It’s an opportunity to do something special, it would be something to be very proud of.”

The former England captain is confident that any traffic and infrastructure concerns would be addressed by the planners.

“I’m sure the highway issues would be taken into account and that people’s concerns would be treated with respect,” he said. “They’re not proposing to put Twickenham there, it would be only hold 20,000 seats maximum.”

And Mr Dallaglio issued a stark warning for Wycombe if the stadium proposal were to fail.

He added: “If it doesn’t go ahead we are looking at stagnation and decline in the area.

“The future of London Wasps would be unviable and untenable.”
