A ROBUST 'no' has been given to stadium plans at Wycombe Air Park by Great Marlow Parish Council.

The councillors are the latest group to come out against Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps' proposal to build a new ground at the Booker site.

The land falls within the Great Marlow parish and councillors have strongly objected to the idea on grounds of transport, infrastructure and loss of Green Belt.

Councillors also fear important businesses will be forced off the site.

Although Wycombe District Council say no site has been decided, the clubs have announced WAP as their preferred site.

A public consultation has now finished.

Great Marlow Parish Council said residents had major concerns over the number of extra cars.

“The approach from Marlow and Lane End is by the B482, a country road, hardly suitable for a major traffic increase.

“This route from Lane End and Marlow is not suitable without major improvements.

“Many of the residents along Clay Lane and the Cressex Road are very concerned, not only by the increase that will inevitably occur with the Stadium, but also the proposed waste transfer site at High Heavens which will greatly increase traffic over the same roads.

The extra traffic will bring greater noise, higher accident risk and “a general decrease in the quality of life” the council said.

It said: "These are country roads, not a major arterial access.”

Public transport to the site is “totally inadequate”, the loss of Green Belt would be unjustified, and more consideration is required over businesses at the air park, it added.

Steve Hayes, owner of Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps, said: “The end of the consultation gives us time to reflect on what we have learnt.

“We are delighted by the strong support we have received from across the community, but we also understand there are some genuine concerns.

“For those with concerns I would simply ask that they keep an open mind and allow us to develop this idea and consult further once the next steps are announced by the council.”
