SPAMALOT is the perfect antidote to a miserable autumn day and not only did the show have the whole audience in stitches, but also the cast.

Starring comedian Marcus Brigstocke, former Eastenders star Todd Carty and actress Amy Nuttall the musical “lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail” is full of silliness and tongue in cheek songs.

The age range of the audience shows just how brilliant the Python humour is to appeal to all ages but also to have stood the test of time.

Brigstocke plays hapless King Arthur with loveable Patsy played by Carty as they start the quest for the Holy Grail, along with four Knights of the Round Table.

The songs are absolutely brilliant and a refreshing change from the usual musicals with the Fisch Slapping Song from Finland (“I said England not Finland”), He Is Not Dead Yet and The Song That Goes Like This (Once in every show there comes a song like this/ It starts off soft and low and ends up with a kiss).

But of course the song everyone associates with Monty Python came in the second act as Patsy says to King Arthur, “Cheer up sire, you know what they say?” followed by Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

The enthusiasm and enjoyment of the cast in infectious- on numerous occasions even the cast found it difficult to contain their laughter. It was particularly funny to see one of the Knights Who Say Ni try to suppress his giggles.

Brigstocke is the perfect King Arthur and references to High Wycombe and fetching an audience member out of the crowd had everyone laughing. Carty is extremely loveable as Patsy and Nutall as Lady of the Lake has an amazing voice. The cast were all brilliant and each gave their all to their many parts.

Spamalot is for everyone, not just Python fans, as you cannot help but leave the theatre smiling. The humour is just plain silly but that is what makes it so great- it does not take itself too seriously.
