STAFF at the Wycombe branches of HMV and its sister company Waterstones are unlikely to be affected by today's announcement that the record giant is to close 60 stores.

A spokesman for the HMV group told the Free Press this afternoon the cuts would be focussed on “large city conurbations where there are multiple branches of HMV and its sister store".

"That doesn't apply to a place like Wycombe where there is one branch of HMV and one of Waterstones,” said Gernnaro Castaldo at the record company's London head office.

A slump in Christmas sales has been blamed for the closures.
