A CABINET member on Wycombe District Council has backed a 'call-in' process for the controversial stadium project.

Councillor David Carroll said examining the decision to take the project forward was “the right thing to do”.

The council's Improvement and Review Commission, which has made the call-in, said the case for building on Green Belt land at Wycombe Air Park had not been justified.

Speaking at a Hughenden Parish Council meeting this week, Cllr Carroll, cabinet member for Pathfinder and Partnerships, said: “The big thing on the agenda is the stadium...Obviously there's been a lot of confusion, emotion and concern.”

He said of the call-in process: “In some ways it's probably a positive, I think that's the right thing to do.”

It is important the process and decisions made over the stadium are transparent, he added.

Cllr Carroll did not indicate whether or not he supported the project.

Jean Teesdale, ward member for Chiltern Rise, is currently the only cabinet member to speak out against the plans, though other senior Conservatives have voiced their opposition.

See link below for the commission's powers and reasons for the call-in.

The new stadium would replace Adams Park as the home ground for Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps.
