ANTI-STADIUM action group GASP has welcomed another organisation into its fold.

Hughenden Valley Residents Association is the latest to join the coalition of bodies fighting against a new ground scheme for Wasps and Wycombe Wanderers at Wycombe Air Park, Booker, Great Marlow.

GASP says this shows district-wide opposition to the plans.

Plans include a new sports village alongside a community stadium with a 17,500 – 20,000 capacity.

Keeping Green Belt land safe was the key issue for the association.

GASP has been behind two demonstrations outside Wycombe District Council offices in recent months.

The protests attracted hundreds.

GASP comprises various parish councils, residents' associations, sports clubs and conservation bodies.

Dory Morgan, who sits HVRA's planning sub-committee, said: “The association has long upheld the importance of safeguarding the Green Belt and Chilterns AONB.

“We are members of the Chiltern Society and Chiltern Conservation Board, and also affiliated members of the High Wycombe Society.

“We voted unanimously at our last meeting to offer our support to GASP and asked that HVRA is added to the list of supporters.”

GASP spokesman Katy Dunn said: “The addition of HVRA to the list of GASP members proves beyond doubt that opposition to the stadium proposals are district-wide and that concerns cannot be dismissed as ‘NIMBYism’.”
