A NEW road running from Marlow Bottom to Booker for matchday traffic only is “a possibility” if the community stadium were built at Wycombe Air Park.

But Deputy Leader Cllr Tony Green, Conservative, said, while this could be a solution, “at the moment it's pure speculation”.

Cllr Green was addressing concerns about the road network around the site in Booker, Great Marlow in the light of a possible expansion of the High Heavens waste facility, opposite.

He told a meeting Wycombe District Council was aware High Heavens could be enlarged – and acknowledged the possible traffic problems posed by the development.

But he said full details about the waste site, run by Buckinghamshire County Council, would not be available until April.

He said if both projects eventually went ahead, “we will have to see if there can be a common solution.”

Resident Mr N Finn asked Cllr Green about “rumours of a new road from Booker along the C100 (Wycombe Road) to Marlow”.

Cllr Green said: “There's the possibility of a route from the C100 to Booker that wouldn't be a public highway – that would be dedicated to just to matchday stadium traffic."

This gated highway could be used by High Heavens waste vehicles too, he added.

“But at the moment it's pure speculation because we have no hard and fast plans for either site,” Cllr Green said.

Another householder, Mr N King, asked Cllr Green about the January Halcrow report on the stadium proposal and the suggestion of park and ride schemes to alleviate traffic problems.

Mr King said: “I am particularly concerned about the B482, from Marlow to Stokenchurch through Lane End, which is a hazardous road with a very high rate of serious and fatal accidents.

“Traffic congestion on the road is already significant and it is used as a bypass route to avoid delays on the M40.”

Park and ride schemes in “congested locations” like Marlow also worried him, he said.

Cllr Green said it was simply a 'scoping' report to help evaluate options but agreed with the concerns over the B482.

Mr King explained his worries for the new stadium result from the “current traffic chaos” at Adams Park.

Cllr Green said: “I fully agree with the comments about the current Adams Park, which is why we are looking at an alternative.”

He added the proposals “would only succeed if mitigation on traffic issues - if a solution - can be found.”
