THERE is under two weeks left for residents to register their vote in the local elections on May 5.

Residents will have the chance to say who they want spending their council taxes in their area – but need to be signed up by the April 14 deadline.

Representatives will be elected to South Bucks District Council, Wycombe District Council and Chiltern District Council.

These authorities run over 100 services, with large budgets.

WDC, for example, can spend around £100m per year.

There will be town and parish council elections on the same day.

The national referendum on changing the way we elect MPs to Parliament also takes place on May 5.

Everyone wishing to vote must be registered by April 14, which is also the deadline for postal ballot applications.

Julie Mills, electoral services team leader at Wycombe District Council, said: “If you want to make sure you get the people in you believe in, you can't argue about the result if you don't vote.

“We all have the right to vote and a lot of people have give a lot to make sure that that's the case.”

On some occasions individual seats are not contested – leaving incumbent councillors to be elected again unopposed.

At the last WDC election the wards of Hambleden, Hazlemere and Bledlow were not contested.

This happens much more commonly in parish and town council elections.

Polling stations open at 7am and close at 10pm on the day, with the results published the following afternoon.
