GLORY on the hockey field continues to come Buckinghamshire’s way after the U14 Girl’s team were crowned South County Champions.

Five wins in a row after an opening 2-2 draw against Oxfordshire helped them seal the title as they swept all before them.

They scored an impressive 27 goals and conceded just four on their way to the championship.

After the opening draw against Oxfordshire the Bucks team hammered Sussex 7-0 the same day.

On their second weekend in action, April 3, they trounced Berkshire 6-0 and beat Surrey 2-0.

Then they wrapped up the title on Sunday with back-to-back 5-1 hammerings of Middlesex and Hampshire.

Buckinghamshire U14 Head coach Marco Parmegiani said: "The team spirit and commitment was fantastic. Having to play two full matches on each of the County Sunday weekends was tough but the girls delivered and they are worthy champions.

“I am so proud of them and they all have a great hockey future.”

The U15 Girls’ side went one better by being crowned champions after winning all six of their matches, with the U13s finishing third. The U16s and U17s finished fourth and sixth in their respective championships.

It was also a successful season for the county’s U13 boys as they too were crowned champions with a 100 per cent winning record.

The U15 and U16 boys both finished second while there were third-placed finishes for the U14s and U17s.
