THE battle against the community stadium is not over, says action group GASP, as it declares it will keep fighting 'tooth and nail'.

In a rallying call to those who are against the ground for Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps and sports village in Booker, the organisation insists the fight must go on.

GASP, which organised two public protests outside Wycombe District Council headquarters where placard bearing demonstrators called the plans to be stopped, has welcomed the election of new Leader Cllr Alex Collingwood.

The group said it looks forward to speaking with him.

A statement from GASP read: “GASP is encouraged that as Leader of the independent Improvement and Review Commission Cllr Collingwood was keen to subject the stadium plans to closer scrutiny.

“Our hope is that WDC will now do this, flagging up all the flaws in the project that have been so glaringly obvious to local tax payers all this time.

“Our position is simple, if Cllr Collingwood and his Cabinet believe the stadium should not go ahead in its current form we will offer our every support and considerable expertise to help them explore the alternatives.”

But it warned: “If, like the previous Cabinet they are in favour of progressing the stadium plans at Booker then we will fight them tooth and nail with every method at our disposal.”

The statement continued: “Our aim has always been to ensure the Community is not robbed of its Green Belt land, nor of its council taxes in progressing a huge building development that it neither needs nor desires.

“We must all remember whatever the new Cabinet’s intentions, the fight to protect the Green Belt from the stadium folly is not over, and we must continue as we have before.”

Wycombe Sports Development Limited, responsible for the project on the two clubs' behalf, told the Free Press it would not be commenting on any of the political changes at WDC or how this may affect the scheme going forward.
