PLANS for a stadium and sports village are hanging on a knife edge as speculation grew yesterday that there were strong calls from Tory councillors to scrap the Booker proposal this coming Monday.

Wycombe District Council’s Cabinet is set to make a decision on Monday night how to proceed with the plan – if at all.

This week organisations on both sides of the debate have mobilised to present their arguments for and against the stadium.

The Bucks Free Press understands from sources there was a strong lobby pressing to abandon the stadium project when Wycombe Tories met at a group meeting on Wednesday night.

And last night rumour and speculation grew that a decision had already informally been taken by Conservatives as a result of this meeting.

However, in response to this, Tory group leader Cllr Alex Collingwood, insisted yesterday evening that all four options were still open.

He said the Tory group meeting on Wednesday had been a private one and he would only confirm that a wide range of views were expressed.

He told the Free Press: “All political parties have informed group discussion forums and debates on a wide range of issues.

"However, they have no formal decision making powers within the council.

"The decisions are made by the Cabinet noted at full council, and the stadium proposal decision will be made by Cabinet after a full debate in public on Monday evening.”
