A MAN'S eye socket was fractured and his head cut after being attacked in Chalfont St Peter.

The victim was assaulted near the market place outside Barclays bank about 1.30am on Saturday morning, detectives believe.

Police were called at around 2.20am by South Central Ambulance Service, which reported a 26-year-old man had suffered head and facial injuries.

He was taken to Wexham Park Hospital and treated for a fractured eye socket and head cut.

He has since been discharged.

The victim has been unable to say how he got his injuries.

Det Sgt Kerry Bradfield, investigating, said: “At this stage we are treating the incident as an assault and want to hear from anyone who saw what happened.

“We’re particularly keen to speak to a white man, about 6ft, who we believe may have been involved in an altercation with the man.”

Ch Insp Ian Hunter, area commander, said: “Serious assaults are extremely rare in the Chiltern area and we are working hard to investigate the circumstances around how this man received his injuries.”
