A WYCOMBE charity aiming to provide food to deprived families took part in its first autumn of school harvest festivals last week.

The One Can Trust was welcomed into Little Kingshill Combined School on Friday to be presented with cans and non-perishable foods for their food bank project.

Project director, Sarah Mordaunt, was delighted with the success of the whole school event, during which she presented each year with a certificate.

She admitted the children’s enthusiasm and effort had caused her to tear a little.

She said: “It was a fantastic response from all the community here at Little Kingshill. It really will be a help to many families and children, and we are so grateful.”

The One Can Trust was set up last May by St. Andrew’s Church Hatter’s Lane to support town wide community based projects, including the One Can Foodbank.

There are 12,000 children living in poverty in Buckinghamshire according to a Child Poverty Local Area Needs Assessment.

A number of these children come from working households where circumstances mean they are struggling financially.

The food bank exists to provide these individuals and families deemed “in crisis” by professional care-workers with a short-term, free emergency food supply of non-perishable items.

Five more schools have chosen to donate to the One Can Trust as part of this year’s harvest celebrations, along with various churches.

High Wycombe businesses have also rallied behind the new charity in the last four months.

Big Yellow have donated storage space for the food bank, Enterprise hire vehicles are used free of charge to collect food from churches and schools, and Homebase have donated storage boxes.
