A CHURCH group in Beaconsfield has launched a fundraising appeal to repair an 19th century tomb.

The Friends of St Mary and All Saints are trying to raise £10,000 to restore the tomb of John and Mary Jackson.

John was baptised in the church and owned the premises which were formerly the Bull Inn in 1830.

The Friends have raised nearly half the amount needed to carry out the work, though more information is needed about the Jackson’s ancestors and descendants to proceed.

John Jackson was the son of John and Christian, and had four other siblings, Ann, born in 1788, Edward 1789, James 1791 and Mary 1793.

A slabs on the tomb reads: “Sacred to the memory of Mary Jackson who departed this life March 16, 1831 aged 56. Also in memory of John Jackson who departed this life on May 9th 1843, aged 57."

Another says: “Sacred to the memory of John Anthony Jackson, who departed this life in January 24, 1842. Also in memory of Mary Thompson, late of Sandhurst, Berks, daughter of John and Mary Jackson, died August 13, 1891, aged 78 years."

If anyone has information on the Jackson’s ancestors and descendants, or can help with the appeal, contact the parish office at the Fitzwilliams Centre on 01494 676690 or email to stmarysmr@aol.com
