War declared on Wycombe's cold homes

Transition Town volunteers Transition Town volunteers

A GROUP of volunteers are declaring war on fuel poverty and cold homes this winter – and they are invite readers to join them.

Transition Town High Wycombe is offering free thermal imaging surveys of homes in the Wycombe district, Wycombe’s team coordinator Mark Brown, said: “This winter as many people could die of cold in their own homes as on our roads.”

“Every year it gets worse as the price of heating spirals upwards. It’s time to put a stop to it.”

The Warm Home Teams borrow Council thermal imaging equipment for the weekends and visit homes throughout the Wycombe area to take external photos that show where expensive heat is leaking out of homes- from poor insulation to badly fitted cat flaps.

Any local resident can apply for the photos to be taken and the team will then use them as a starting point to provide guidance on how occupants can save fuel and money.

The team is in need of more volunteers in the Wycombe area and full training will be supplied to those who can spend a few hours at the weekend.

Mr Brown adds: “Even if someone only wishes to take notes or hold a torch, all help will make that volunteer a ‘warm home hero’ this winter.”

If readers wish to apply for a free survey or volunteer then call 01494 858390 or go online at www.transition-wycombe.org.uk/warm email them at warm-home-heroes@transition-wycombe.org.uk Marlow residents can contact Transition Town Marlow on marlowthermal@aol.co.uk

If they are really concerned about energy waste maybe they should start in the town centre looking at the shops who, even on the coldest of days, have their doors wide open and a “heat curtain” wasting vast amounts of energy trying to stop the cold air from rushing in.

Quick Mark - write a blog that no one will be able to comment on or ask questions.

I think you will find Ivor that the concern is more aimed towards those that struggle to cope with fuel bills and hi-lighting problem areas, Not the commercial properties!!!!!!

Ivor, perhaps you could ask them to do an image of the hall, and then write a blog about it.

As I have practically no insulation whatsoever (however I do have a very powerful boiler) I fear they would be shocked with the results of the survey.

But would you read and comment on the blog if I wrote one?

Oh god Ivor - don't be so desperate. Accept that some people don't wish to comment on your blog and be happy with those who want to.

Well Ivor if you have the survey done and write a blog on it, and show the photos of the hall without thermal imaging and with thermal imaging then I will comment on it.

I can tell that the other place is as hot as Hell.
.
Also that Mark Brown's blog will have a heat shield around it preventing access.
.
As Ian Drury (an RGS Old Boy) used to sing - 'What a Waste , What a Waste'
